Background

Three London school partnerships have been praised in a national report for improving education in the city. Camden Learning, Haringey Education Partnership (HEP), and Tower Hamlets Education Partnership (THEP) were featured in the AEPA report, Belonging and Excellence: The Importance of Local Education Partnerships.

The report shows how schools working together are helping students do better and feel more included. It also shows how partnerships across England are tackling shared challenges such as inclusion, special educational needs, teacher recruitment, and staff wellbeing.

Camden Learning is recognised for its “Building Back Stronger” plan, which aims to give every child a great education. Its key initiatives include making sure all children can read by age seven, helping with the transition from primary to secondary school, and providing a detailed post-16 prospectus showing opportunities at Camden secondary schools and post-16 providers.

HEP’s Opening Worlds curriculum helps students with vocabulary and learning. Over 250 schools use it, and it has improved reading and writing in Haringey.

The programme aims to build high-performing teams and strengthen decision-making under pressure.

Stephen Hall, CEO of Camden Learning, said: “We are proud of our strategy, which ensures every child has a fair start. The approach is widely supported by Camden schools and the council, reflecting a shared commitment to educational excellence.”

The AEPA report underlines how school-led collaborations like these are making a tangible difference, demonstrating that partnership and innovation can drive lasting improvements in children’s education across London and beyond.
