Background

Global education group Nord Anglia Education has announced that Mont’Kiara International School will join its international network in August 2026. The addition will expand Nord Anglia’s presence to 90 schools worldwide and 15 schools across Southeast Asia.

Mont’Kiara International School, located in Kuala Lumpur, currently teaches more than 700 students from over 45 nationalities. The school was founded in 1994 and offers the US High School Diploma in addition to the entire International Baccalaureate curriculum, which includes the Primary Years Program, Middle Years Program, and Diploma Program.

With this expansion, Nord Anglia will operate two schools in Kuala Lumpur. Mont’Kiara International School will provide the International Baccalaureate pathway, while the British International School of Kuala Lumpur will continue offering the British curriculum. The move is expected to give families in the city more academic choices under the same education group.

The school’s chairman, Tan Sri M.S. Tan, decided to hand over the institution to Nord Anglia Education as part of his retirement plans after leading the school for more than 25 years. Company officials stated that the partnership would help strengthen opportunities for students, families and educators in Kuala Lumpur.

Students at Mont’Kiara International School will gain access to Nord Anglia’s global learning programs developed with institutions such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Juilliard School and UNICEF. They will also join the group’s Global Campus digital learning platform and participate in AI-supported learning initiatives.

The school’s teaching and support staff will receive professional training opportunities through Nord Anglia University and global leadership development programs.
