Background:
The Department for Education’s Office for Students (OfS) has given edtech company Multiverse the power to award degrees, marking an important milestone for the UK-based skills and apprenticeship provider.
This approval allows Multiverse to offer degrees in Digital, Business, and Administration, supporting its goal of providing alternative pathways to higher education without the cost of traditional university education. The company remains the only independent training provider in the UK with degree-awarding powers.
Euan Blair, founder and CEO of Multiverse, said the approval confirms the company’s focus on practical, career-oriented education. He explained that being the only independent provider in the UK with degree-awarding powers allows Multiverse to quickly expand and create important degree programs. Blair added that the wider authority will enable the company to offer qualifications that equip students with the skills needed by the UK workforce.
Under its widened powers, Multiverse will introduce a new degree apprenticeship programme, AI Product Engineering, designed to prepare software engineers for roles in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence sector.
Alongside its degree offerings, Multiverse continues to deliver upskilling programmes for existing professionals. In November, the company announced a partnership with software firm Palantir to help NHS staff develop AI and data competencies.
